The Faeries' Ruin Effect on the Altador Cup teams

A Bit of Background Info...

In September, Year 12, the annual Faerie Festival abruptly came to a halt due to an unforeseen curse that turned the entire faerie population in Neopia to stone!

As the months dragged on, Neopia learnt how much danger they were in without the faeries monitoring the overall welfare of the planet. A crack team of heroes (King Altador, two of Altador's guards, King Jazan of Qasala, Captain Brynn of Brightvale, Xandra the scholar, the Ogrin Top Chop Master and Hanso the self-proclaimed master thief) went out of their way to rescue the sinking Faerieland in order to save Neopia from a horrible fate.

Many had to do battle with Shadow Wraiths that plagued the planet and drained the life out of anything they passed. It was a grim time for all.

But the destination for Faerieland was a direct collision just outside of the Haunted Woods and Xandra revealled her true powers for Neopia's rule. At that point Xandra had turned everyone in the vicinity of her into stone after tricking our heroes into believing that an ancient ritual would save the doomed world. Hanso and Brynn had been spared from the ritual's effects because Xandra believed that they could help her reform Neopia "in her image".

Brynn battled against Oblivion whilst Hanso deliberately antagonised Xandra to overload the artefact that started this mess (he liberated it from her a second time since the start of the plot) which led up to the most selfless heroic deed in Neopian history...

Hanso sacrificed himself to save the world by destroying the energy-charged artefact, petrifying himself and Xandra in the process of breaking the evil spell. This unpetrifed our fallen heroes and the faeries... although earlier on in the plot, Xandra had killed off Hubrid Nox to aid her plans and sadly he could not return.

With the faeries freed along with our other heroes, Queen Fyora returned the favour to Hanso, asking him to revisit her when he was fully healed...
(For more information about the plot, please see our The Faeries' Ruin plot coverage.)

But due to the catastrophic effect this was having on the Neopian world itself, our Altador Cup stars suffered during the off-season as well.
Today you will hear from the players themselves about how The Faeries' Ruin impacted their lives and training possibilities in the duration of the global crisis.

Up in the safety of space, Team Virtupets could only speculate the horros that Neopia was facing as they continued their scheduled Yooyuball practice.

CAPTAIN KEETRA DEILE

It was business as usual for us - Breakfast, Yooyuball, Lunch, Yooyuball, dinner, Yooyuball - but then something unusual happened.
GOLTRON MK 1

BEEP. SYSTEM START-UP... FILE 2031-HZ RETRIEVED. NEOPIA ON RED ALERT... BEEP. UNAUTHORISED EVIL AT WORK - NOT DOCTOR SLOTH INVADING NEOPIA... BEEP. TEAM VIRTUPETS ORDERED TO PLAY YOOYUBALL. BEEP... END FILE.
SELA PRETOR

When we got a moment, we stopped practice to check on the system monitors and Neopia seemed to be losing temperature... Faerieland was the most peculiar, it had more electricity than what runs Grundos Cafe!
WELDAR XUPENFARB

The weather patterns across the globe were looking almost as violent as Lutari Island's current status. It was definitely no time to plan a trip to Neopia!
XL STRIKER 3.8

IRREGULAR WEATHER - XL STRIKER 3.8 ANALYSIS... NEOPIA DOOMED.
KEETRA

Before we returned to the hologram stadium, I programmed the main computer to monitor Faerieland's critical information. After Yooyuball practice we were shocked to find that the computer had recorded a rapid descent of the cloud. It seemed to be losing altitude but it was as if it was purposefully descending across the Western Hemisphere towards the Haunted Woods.
GOLTRON

BEEP. FILE 3331-PLZ RETRIEVED... BEEP. FAERIELAND MALFUNCTION... BEEP. REASON: WEATHER... BEEP. CHANCES OF SAVING FAERIELAND: NOT LIKELY. END FILE... BEEP.
SELA

The computer's calculations were correct, though! When we checked some time later, Faerieland had crashed by the Haunted Woods! We weren't sure what was going to happen to Neopia - it really did look like an uninhabitable place.
WELDAR

If Neopia was trying to contact us at all, we couldn't see any signs of an SOS signal from the Virtupets satellite dish but I reckon the electrical storms would've blocked their communications.
KEETRA

Then - after a puzzlingly long time - Neopia's elements balanced! The weather patterns returned to normal and apart from Faerieland being somewhere it never meant to be, Neopia was a Green Zone again. Everything was fine. We eventually spied on a transmission (not addressed to us, we just play Yooyuball) from Neopia Central, explaining what really happened!
WELDAR

I honestly had no idea that faerie magic was that powerful.
KEETRA

But anyway, our time is up, we must return to our Yooyuball simulation at once. Good day.
