The Faeries' Ruin Effect on the Altador Cup teams

A Bit of Background Info...

In September, Year 12, the annual Faerie Festival abruptly came to a halt due to an unforeseen curse that turned the entire faerie population in Neopia to stone!

As the months dragged on, Neopia learnt how much danger they were in without the faeries monitoring the overall welfare of the planet. A crack team of heroes (King Altador, two of Altador's guards, King Jazan of Qasala, Captain Brynn of Brightvale, Xandra the scholar, the Ogrin Top Chop Master and Hanso the self-proclaimed master thief) went out of their way to rescue the sinking Faerieland in order to save Neopia from a horrible fate.

Many had to do battle with Shadow Wraiths that plagued the planet and drained the life out of anything they passed. It was a grim time for all.

But the destination for Faerieland was a direct collision just outside of the Haunted Woods and Xandra revealled her true powers for Neopia's rule. At that point Xandra had turned everyone in the vicinity of her into stone after tricking our heroes into believing that an ancient ritual would save the doomed world. Hanso and Brynn had been spared from the ritual's effects because Xandra believed that they could help her reform Neopia "in her image".

Brynn battled against Oblivion whilst Hanso deliberately antagonised Xandra to overload the artefact that started this mess (he liberated it from her a second time since the start of the plot) which led up to the most selfless heroic deed in Neopian history...

Hanso sacrificed himself to save the world by destroying the energy-charged artefact, petrifying himself and Xandra in the process of breaking the evil spell. This unpetrifed our fallen heroes and the faeries... although earlier on in the plot, Xandra had killed off Hubrid Nox to aid her plans and sadly he could not return.

With the faeries freed along with our other heroes, Queen Fyora returned the favour to Hanso, asking him to revisit her when he was fully healed...
(For more information about the plot, please see our The Faeries' Ruin plot coverage.)

But due to the catastrophic effect this was having on the Neopian world itself, our Altador Cup stars suffered during the off-season as well.
Today you will hear from the players themselves about how The Faeries' Ruin impacted their lives and training possibilities in the duration of the global crisis.

Terror Mountain

Team Terror Mountain were shocked when they discovered that the Snow Faerie (Taelia) had been petrified! But that wasn't the only problem... Faerieland was crashing and along with it came impossible weather for the frozen land. No one was safe on Terror Mountain. With Taelia out of action the Yooyuball squad found themselves rescuing Neopians from snowdrifts rather than practicing their sport.

CAPTAIN PRYTARIEL

We had just finished practice one day when we, as a team, decided to pay Taelia a visit to do one of her quests. Trouble was that when we got there, she wasn't herself...
MINAE MITORA

Yeah, she doesn't seem the type to wear Relic as a colour... Although she wasn't painted Relic, on account that she wasn't moving a lot...
RINOK FITEL

I wandered over to her and tapped lightly on her head - solid stone, dude! It sort of tipped us off that something wasn't right with the world.
EVREM GUILAKO

[Translated from Tyrannian] This is my first year away from Tyrannia, and it's COLD in Terror Mountain. But anyway, the Snow Faerie didn't look too good... and I didn't know it rained in such a snowy place?
PRYTARIEL

That's because it doesn't rain on Terror Mountain, Evrem. That was some freak act of nature when Faerieland began to fall from the sky.
OSIELLE LIDEL

Some of the snow was beginning to melt, and that meant the land was unstable. Many Neopians were under threat of being trapped in collapsed snow.
RINOK

Given that Taelia wasn't in the position to help anyone, we ditched further Yooyuball practice to dig Neopians outta snow drifts and stuff.
PRYTARIEL

Even though we were concerned about Faerieland, we didn't fancy seeing our fans perish in unforseen climate changes. This time they needed our support.
MINAE

Once we rescued some poor souls, I was ready to lead them indoors for warmth, blankets and hot cocoa. NeoMonia isn't cool!
OSIELLE

Whilst we were all busy doing that, Faerieland vanished from the sky and apparently crashed in the Haunted Woods. Word had it that a powerful sorceress plotted to destroy the faeries forever and nearly succeeded!
PRYTARIEL

Fortunately, we knew the faeries were okay when Taelia was back in business to help rescue others on the mountain.
RINOK

At least the rain stopped.
MINAE

Yeah, we need more snow after that crisis.
