April Fools Jokes

Why this page?
Every year on April 1st The Neopets Team tries to pull everyone's leg by changing something to the site that is rather radical. For example in 2006 they told everyone they would have to start paying taxes for every page load. We decided to start making a log of TNT's April fools jokes, starting April 1st, 2007. From the years before 2007 we've tried to gather some information to give you insights in the older jokes.

April 1st, 2007

Battledome Closed
On April 1st 2007, TNT closed down the Battledome. This is what they put on the Battledome page:

The Battledome Is Closed Due to circumstances beyond our control, we've had to permanently shut down the Battledome and its associated activities. Obviously, this is not something we wanted to do, and as much as we'd like to fully explain, we aren't allowed to comment at this time. We'll just leave it at that for now. We know there are many, many Neopians who have worked very, very hard and spent countless Neopoints to train their Neopets for the Battledome. We would like to thank you for participating in past wars and events, and for keeping Neopia safe via Defenders of Neopia. Please know that we haven't forgotten you. We are currently working on new activities that will put these stats to use. Your efforts will NOT be wasted. We have also been ordered to remove certain Battledome weapons from the site. We realize there are many Neopoints invested there, as well, so instead of simply deleting them from everyone's account, we're putting together a Battledome weapon exchange program. We're still working out the details, but we hope to allow everyone to trade in their weapons for another item of equal or lesser rarity. We will have this ready by Wednesday to comply with the agreement. We're sorry for the short notice, and for not having alternatives ready for you now, but it was unavoidable. We're working as fast as we can and we think the new stuff will be quite cool. We hope to have everything else up by mid October! - The Neopets Team

Battledome Chat Closed
That was not all, TNT also decided to delete Battledome Chat. The page would display the following:

Battledome Weapon Shops Closed
Finally, all the shops that would normally sell weapons were closed as well. They would show the following:

Invalid Shop! Please click on an icon from the menu above to proceed!

Battledome Links Redirected
All other links that have something to do with the Battledome such as the Hidden Tower, Equipment page and Abilities page, all led to the main Battledome page that showed the Battledome is closed message.


Things they forgot?
However, TNT wasn't very convincing on some points, for example the Petpet Battle Arena was still opened. On that page it says: "Here the truly great Petpets can increase their level and help their owners rule the Battledome!"

Another thing was, that the Battledome related random events where still activated. For example this one:

NEW BATTLEDOME CHALLENGER!!! The Black Pteri will be waiting for you in the BATTLEDOME!!! He sits and watches the world, and knows that THEY are coming soon...

Also, Premium users were able fight in the Battledome; buy from the Hidden Tower and other weapon shops etc during this day. Another thing TNT missed out on!
