Mysterious Morphing Experiment

Mysterious Morphing Experiment
An all-new Mysterious Morphing Experiment is here! It's a special type of item that changes over time (Raging Jack-o-Lantern Helmet today, ??? tomorrow)! To learn more, click here. Just don't wait too long, this exciting Experiment is only available through November 9th!

What is the Mysterious Morphing Experiment (MME)?
The Mysterious Morphing Experiment is a new feature in the NC Mall that was started during the summer of 2009. It's about wearable items that will 'morph' into different stages. The first item to appear was the MME1-S1: Tiny Striped Wonderworm.
The morphing can take several days or weeks, but all the experiments of the same type will morph at the same time, so all the Tiny Striped Wonderworms will morph at the same time, give or take a few hours. It's not possible for one Tiny Striped Wonderworm to morph one day, and another the next week.
At the end of the morphing experiment, you will get all the different stages to use as separate wearables in your inventory.

How do I know if an item is part of the Mysterious Morphing Experiment?
All the items that are part of the MME have a question mark in their right corner. Also, their names will be starting with MME like in MME1-S1: Tiny Striped Wonderworm. MME1 means this item is the first Mysterious Morphing Experiment item that appeared; the S1 means that this is Stage 1 for the item. When it morphs into a new stage, the name of that stage will most likely have S2 in it.

It seems when the morphing stages are done, the question mark will disappear and the items of all stages the morph has gone through will become regular NC items.

What stages will the Mysterious Morphing Experiment go through?
To keep it a surprise it's unknown what stages the MME will go through before it reaches its final stage. It's also unknown how many stages each experiment will go through before reaching it's final stage, but each experiment will have at least three stages.
Also, it's possible for two of the same items to morph into different stages, so someone who bought two experiments of the same type may end up with different final stages. People who have bought multiples of the worm have reported how, when they put it in their gallery, instead of 2 worms showing up with the quantity of '2' written beneath them (the regular way for multiples to show up), they had two worms sitting next to each other in their gallery. The same has happened with people who have their worms in their SDB or viewed their NC Mall albums. Theories are that the two worms, who are somehow considered different by Neopets database, will eventually morph into two different stages.
Also, according to the FAQ in the NC mall, it's possible to get a limited edition bonus item at the end of the morphing process.

I bought a Mysterious Morphing Experiment item, now what can I do with it?
The items are wearable, meaning you can use them to dress up your Pet. The Tiny Striped Wonderworm is a trinket, so it can be worn by Baby, Mutant, Maraquan, unconverted and other Pets who can't wear clothes as well. In this way, you'll be able to keep track of the progress of your morph. You can also place the item in your inventory, SDB or gallery. There it will still morph, so it might happen when you search for the item in your SDB, you might not find it by its first name, but by the name of the new morph.

Also, with NC gift boxes, you can gift or trade the item. The person you'll send the item to will not only receive the item you gifted them, but in the end also all the different stages.

MME1-B1: Sputtering Grey Mini-Monster
The Sputtering Grey Mini-Monster was the bonus item coming with the Tiny Striped Wonderworm. It was given out randomly and the chances to get one were rare, which makes it a much wanted item. The bonus item appeared into your inventory together with the the previous morphing stages the MME has gone through. Due to a glitch, the Sputtering Grey Mini-Monster was not visible in people's inventory right away, but it showed up later on.

Which one did you get?
MME2 had four different ID numbers and therefore, there were four different outcomes possible. If you had either the Glowing Lagoon or the Misty Lagoon at stage 2, it was still possible to get the or the sword stage, or the fish stage in stage 4, since those stages could morph from both versions, depending on the ID number.
If you had the sword stage in stage 4, you would get the sword stage in stage 5 as well, did you have the fish in stage 4, you would get the fish in stage 5.
The bonus item was awarded randomly to both the sword and fish stages, chances to get one were rare.
