THEORIES & TESTED THEORIES
On this page you will find a brief overview of all theories that we have collected regarding Bonju. You will also be able to see which theories have been tested and by who. At the bottom of this page, you will find more information regarding these theories, which you may find of interest to create new theories.
The Testers
We have decided to make four categories of testing. This is because we do not know whether having completed the cyodrakes gaze plot, or owning an orange blumaroo affect the outcome of the tested theories. Below you can see that we have given each tested a colour code, so you can quickly see what kind of tester has tested what theory.

The Theories
All theories we have come up with are shown in the table below. If you have a new theory you'd like to see added, please refer to the How to submit info page.

Theories Involving A Blumaroo
Feed A Blumaroo
Might just be a feed an orange blumaroo a certain item. For the garlic avatar it is random, and same as the evil fuzzle. Possibly have to feed it a few times and get it at random.
View A Blumaroo Lookup At A Certain Time
Hoban's watch bears the time of 1 o'clock, and the mysterious 8 connection, it could be possible you have to view the lookup of an orange blumaroo at 1am/pm or 8am/pm.
View A Blumaroo Lookup At Certain Age
The Darigan Pteri avatar has a set age you must view to obtain. Maybe you have to view an xxx amout old orange blumaroo.
Read To A Blumaroo
There are a few books of interest that you might have to read to an orange blumaroo. First off would be Gourmet Cooking For Your Pet to teach your pet to be a master culinary artist like Bonju. Another book to try would be Cooking With Chef Bouglar. This is not Bonju, but to be a master, you must know all. Not directly connected to cooking but The Unlucky Blumaroo might unlock the avatar if read to an orange blumaroo. Anger Management For Navigators is a book that Hoban obviously did not read - or did not take to heart. Connected with the plot itself, try reading Hoban's Map Book to an orange blumaroo. Bonju would of wanted to know where they were going in order to know what ingredients to pick up for furture recipes.
Other Blumaroo Related Theories
Bonju lost his temper and got upset at Hoban so he pushed him overboard. So, try and make an orange blumaroo angry. The disease NeoMonia mentions the pet being grumpy.
Theories Involving A Yellow Aisha
Feed A Yellow Aisha Hobans Leftovers
Hoban who was pushed overboard by Bonju, is a yellow aisha who did not finish his food so Bonju packed it up for him. This item was a plot prize.
Abandon A Yellow Aisha With Orange Blumaroo Active
Bonju is an orange blumaroo and Hoban is a yellow aisha. Possibly by abandoning a yellow aisha with an orange blumaroo active, its like recreating the plot idea of Bonju pushing Hoban overboard.
Allow A Yellow Aisha To Break An Orange Blumaroo Plushie
With Hoban's anger, it is easy to see that he would break apart anything representing Bonju.
Theories Involving The Battledome
Equipped A Blumaroo With Knife
In the plot, Bonju gets ahold of a knife from the weapons room because he claims that his cooking knife had gone missing. Possibly a matter of equipping your blumaroo with a knife item will do the trick.
Orange Blumaroo vs Yellow Aisha -Requirements
The Orange Blumaroo might have to be equipped with the knife Bonju was carrying. Also, Hobans Hat was a plot prize, equipped the Yellow Aisha with this item. When fighting, your pet cannot be hungry, so try feeding the Yellow Aisha Hobans Leftovers before the fight. The fight would sybmolize Hoban eating Bonju's cooking but not liking it, Bonju getting upset, and loosing his temper.

It could be possible that you have to perform a certain attack against the Orange Blumaroo or Yellow Aisha

Refreshing Shenkuu Pages
There are many avatars that TNT has required you to refresh on a certain page. Some could claim that this avatar is random on the pages and unfortunately no one has stumbled upon it yet. Just a note: all of these pages were available before Shenkuu was released on the Cyodrakes Gaze ship except the Lunar Temple. The Lunar Temple was released with the land Shenkuu after the avatar was released.
Theories Involving Games
Kou-Jong
Linae is constantly playing Kou-Jong and is even so in the plot. There is an incident where she goes looking for a tile she lost during the storyline. In this game, there is also the brown tomato-like item that is in a few places but not found as an actual item in neopia.
Eye of the Storm
Eye of the Storm is a game where the crew, Bonju, Linae, Hoban and Shumi, help guide the player to find the Cyodrakes Gaze ship in the stormy sea. It is easy to see why this game is questioned in the Bonju mystery.
Other Games
Word of the day may not have anything to do with Bonju, but maybe if he sees you trying to have the word of the day resemble him, he might appreciate you recognizing him.
The wishing well has been known to grant some wishes. Possibly there is someone lucky enough to have that wish come true?
Maybe showing off your hard work in achieving so many great scores on games, Bonju will reward those fighting to be great, like him.
Theories Involving Petpets
Cyodrake Petpets
Cyodrake is the petpet of the plot in a sense - the ship is called Cyodrakes Gaze. Might have to age one on an Orange Blumaroo.
Baby Blu Petpets
Baby Blu looks remarkably like the blumaroo. Maybe the testing should involve aging a baby blu.
Swabby Petpets
Snarkie (member of TNT, who is said to be the only one in neopia who has the avvy, but who has NOT said anything about the avatar) has swabby on her pirate elephante. This theory is also based on the fact that Bonju stamp mentions; Bonju is also very talented at cleaning.

"Bonju is also very talented at cleaning." Bonju stamp tells us. In Bonju stamp, you can also see that Bonju is cleaning a sword. That is suggested to be Night Katana.
Also
It has also been noticed that Chef Bonju and Altador plot's orange yurble has some kind of connection. Both are orange, get angry easily, and are good at cleaning and cooking.

Bonju himself spends a lot of time in his kitchen. Maybe if he can catch you helping out on kitchen quests, he might deem you worthy of his avatar.

Theories Involving Neomails
Neomail
There has been the emote and squawk avatar where you have to post on a board a certain text to obtain the avatar. Possibly by sending a neomail with specific content could add the avatar to your list.

Again, there are two avatars that you have to post specific content to obtain the avatars. Possibly by posting something related to Bonju, Shenkuu, Cyodrakes Gaze, etc could lead to an answer to the riddle.
Theories Involving Neopets General Search
General Search
There are avatars like the Zafara - Helpful and baby buzz that require the user to enter text in the search bar. Maybe there is something to look up to obtain the Bonju avatar.
POSSIBLE REQUIREMENTS?
Many neopians predict that you have to have an Orange Blumaroo as your active pet while you carry out the action to get the avatar since Chef Bonju is an Orange Blumaroo. Also, since on the avatar release date it says, "If only there were a blumaroo chef around to help you..." that you might need a Blumaroo pet in general. Another theory is that you had to be a participant in the Cyodrake's Gaze Plot and carry out the action to get the avatar since it came out DURING the plot. Could also be possible that you had to guess correctly on who pushed Hoban overboard or maybe you had to participate in a certain step. **NOTE** These are requirements, not that you would get the avatar for having or completing them, but that you have to have them in order to even work towards the avatar.
CLEANING & ORANGE COLOR
Chef Bonju is also talented in cleaning. In the comic he does the dishes and cleand a lot. It has been thought it you should try mixing cleaning-related items.
Many have also wondered the connection between Chef Bonju and Altador plot's orange yurble. Both are orange, and both like cleaning. Also both get really angry if someone says something negative of their doings. Try mixing something what gets your pet angry, for example some petpets what won't equip to your pets.
MYSTERIOUS NUMBER 8
Chef Bonju avatar released in 8th of August, 2006, in blumaroo day. When summing 2+0+0+6=8 >888. 8+8+8=24, 2x4=8. Number 8 has been mentioned in many other places too, and it's known as lucky number in China too, and Bonju is a bit Asian-looking. When Neopets turned 9 years old in 15.11, and in their birthday banner they said " (Also known as"831 days and still no sign of the Bonju avatar") ". So when summing 1+5+1+1=8.
NEOPOINTS
When you're trying to get the Tomos avatar, you have to have special amount of neopoints in your hand and correct item in your inventory.
It is also possible when you're trying to get the Bonju avatar, you should carry special amount of neopoints. Most likely the amount of neopoints is 20nps, becouse chef bonju stamp is "worth" 20nps. The avatar was released before the stamp but this can be still possible. Try mixing with the items from comics (etc) and 20nps in your hand.
CARDBOARD TASTE?
There is a book for the description says, "Always eat what the Chef makes - even if it tastes like cardboard..." The food item Bud Bud has a cardboard like flavor. This could have something to do with either culinary concoctions, or having this item in inventory while visiting somewhere perhaps?
PUZZLE ADVENTURE'S CLUES
Neopets puzzle adventure's is neopets game for ps2. Bonju is also in that game, and he and the player has interesting conversation.
Bonju: É see how well they do without a cook. See how they like there voyage then!
Player: I'm sorry, am I interrupting something?
Bonju: No! Wait, yes! Wait... let me ask you something, whoever-you-are
Player: Okay...?
Bonju: if you were out at sea for months on end without a good cook, do you think you'd be happy?
Player: I, uh... guess not?
Bonju: Right, exactly! I slave away for them, but you push just one guy overboard andÉ
Player: Push a guy overboard? Wait... you're not on the Cyodrake's Gaze as well, are you?
Bonju: Of course I am! I'm their Chef, Bonju! Surely you've heard of me?
Player: No, not at all.
Bonju: Grr... exactly! That's exactly my point! I'd like to see one of them cook fine meals like mine night after night! Especially with the low quality ingredients they expect me to use...
Player: Speaking of which, Orrin asked me to bring these herbs to you. He said you might be grateful.
Bonju: Grateful? I would be grateful if he had sent you with the right plants! I asked for Kollie Flower stalks and what does he send me? Pebeanjays! This is just terrible. I can't make anything with these. Well, except for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, but who wants to eat those on a ship?
Player: I suppose I could try to find you some Kollie Flowers, if they're that important to you...
Bonju: Would you? Please do so I think I saw some growing out near the Hau household.
