Faerie Quest Information
Below is an example of when the Fountain Faerie appears to assign you a quest. The items that the Fountain Faerie requests are at random with a rarity of 94-96 (very rare). They can be found throughout Neopia.

Finding the Requested Item
When on a quest, the Shop Wizard and Super Shop Wizard (for Premium) are closed. There are multiple avenues to look for the requested item. You can check if the item is already in your SDB, check the specific store the item is sold in, ask friendly Neopians for help, check the Trading Post, or find it in the Auctions!

How do you get a Fountain Faerie Quest?
Fountain Faerie Quests are quests given to you by the Fountain Faerie in a random event. If she decides to give you a quest she will ask you to bring her an item that she appears to have lost. If you decide to bring the faerie the item she has asked for, she will reward you. Fountain Faerie quests are similar to the regular Faerie Quests, the difference is only in the reward, and the rarity of the quest.
If you are blessed enough to get a visit from the Fountain Faerie, then you will get a random event at the top of your screen that looks like this:
Which items does the Fountain Faerie ask for?
The Fountain Faerie can ask for any item with the rarity of 94, 95, or 96. This means your quest can be as cheap as 1,000 Neopoints. You could be unlucky and get a more expensive quest, 500,000 Neopoints or even more. Which item she asks you is totally random. The price of the item is determined by other users, as the items will likely be found in user shops or on the Trading Post.
How do you complete a Fountain Faerie Quest?
While you are on a quest you are not able to use the Shop Wizard, this means that the easiest way to find an item has been taken away from you, to make it harder to find the item. But it still leaves various other options to get the item open. You can still use the Trading Post and Auctions, or you can buy the item at one of the Neopets stores such as Uni's Clothing. And what's stopping you from asking someone else to find the item for you? Nothing! You can ask one of your Neofriends, ask at your guild, or use the Quests Neoboard. These people can use their Shop Wizard to lookup where you can get the item you need for the lowest price.
As soon as you've bought the item, you need to go bring it to the Fountain Faerie. There are four ways of going to the Faerie Quests page while you are on a quest. There is a link to it in Faerie City (Faerieland), one in the Guild Head Quarters,
and one at Pet Central. Apart from that you will also get a link to the Faerie Quests page if you go to the Shop Wizard page while you are on a quest.Caution: It has come to our attention that if you do not have any pets on your account when you turn in the quest item, you will not get your reward, even if you create or adopt a pet later. :(
When you go to the Faerie Quests page it will look like this:
If you want to reject the quest then click the second button that says, "I dont want to do this quest". If you went and got the item and are returning it to her, you push the first button that says, "I have the Captain Scarblade Painting!". After you return the item, you will go to a screen that looks like this:
Visiting the Rainbow Fountain
Your reward for completing the Fountain Faerie quest is gaining access to the Rainbow Fountain in Faerieland. Of course, anyone can visit the Rainbow Fountain, even if you have never completed a Fountain Faerie quest. Normally, when visiting the Rainbow Fountain, you will see the Fountain Faerie telling you that all the magic has gone.

The look of the Rainbow Fountain after you have completed a Fountain Faerie quest is much different! The Rainbow Fountain is activated, and allows you to paint ONE of your pets into a different colour.

Claiming your reward
Your active pet will be the pet that shows on the page. By changing your active pet on the QuickRef page, you can choose to give the reward to a different pet.
The dropdown list will list all the colour choices that the Fountain Faerie will let you paint your pet. There are a few colours that can NOT be painted, these are: Msp, Magma, Royal, Sponge, Ice, Usuki, Quiguki, 8-Bit and Robot.
All other colours are available.
If you have decided what you want to paint your pet you can click the colour you want to paint your pet and then click the "Get my new Colour!" button. After you click the button it will take you to a page that looks like this:

Is it worth it to complete a Fountain Faerie Quest?
Whether you decide to complete your quest or not is of course entirely up to you. However, there may be some things that may help you make your decison.
Fountain Faerie Quests are insanely rare
There are many people who have played neopets for over 6 years and have never -ever- had a Fountain Faerie quest. If you decline your quest, you may never get another again.
You can keep your reward for eternity (until used)
Once you complete your Fountain Faerie quest, you are given access to the Rainbow Pool. You will keep this access until you use up the power to paint your pet. If you cannot make a decision on what pet to paint or what colour, you can always choose next month, or next year. However, you cannot have two Fountain Faerie Quests at the same time, so if you are lucky enough to get a second one, you must paint your pet before turning in the item for the second quest, or the first will disappear.
Some colours are really expensive
Some paint brushes cost millions of neopoints, other colours such as coconut or chocolate, are only available through the Secret Laboratory. If you want one of those colours, it will be much cheaper to buy the item for the Fountain Faerie than buying the paint brush, or trying to lab your pet.
If you cannot afford the item now, save!
You do not have to complete your quest instantly. If you cannot afford to buy the item now, because it is expensive, you can always buy it later when you can afford it. If you don't complete or decline the quest you will not be able to use the shop wizard until you do complete it which is a minor inconvenience.

Fountain Faerie vs. Water Faerie
The Fountain Faerie is not the same as the Water Faerie. If you are given a quest by the Water Faerie you could be tricked into thinking you got a Fountain Faerie quest. Below you can see the differences in the images of both faeries.

The Water Faerie always asks for books, she always rewards you with 2 defense points for one of your pets.
Rainbow Fountain History
The Rainbow Fountain first appeared on Neopets in July 2001 and again in November 2001. Back then the fountain was accessed much differently and was ran by all the regular faeries. Instead of completing a random Fountain Faerie quest, one was able to use the Rainbow Fountain's magic by signing up with sponsor offers. Signing up with different sponsors could earn you fountain passes.

The Rainbow Fountain was closed in this form after a few months and did not re-appear until June 24, 2003, which is when the Fountain Faerie and her quests made her first appearence.
