As Chapter Eight begins, our team has apparently found shelter from the avalanche and is back on the ship. Clara is searching the ancient tome for hints about their next stop, but is confused by the clue: "Common ground holds the key to destiny�s door." Roxton suggests a simpler method, X Marks the Spot! By sketching some lines connecting their previous stops in pairs, they form an "X" on the map. That must be the next stop! They set their course and approach the unknown location. As they get nearer, the compass starts spinning. Clara isn't concerned, because the volcano she sees on the island ahead matches the drawing in her book.
