What is the new Neopet?
Say hello to the Varwolf! This shy but friendly creature has been hiding in the Haunted Woods for who-knows-how long (they’re pretty elusive!), but it has finally ventured out to say hello.
Why does the Varwolf look so familiar?
Way back in Year 7, 50 “new Neopets” were released as an April Fools joke, and one of them was the Varwolf. As it turns out, the Varwolf was real after all!
How can I obtain a Varwolf?
Varwolves are pretty timid by nature, so it may take some time and a lot of searching to be able to find and befriend one… But if you know where to go, you might be able to start a quest that will lead you to the Varwolves’ home!
If you don’t want to go to all the trouble of finding one though, you can always look for a Morphing Potion or use the Premium Subscription’s Pet Species Change perk!
Can I get a Varwolf through the Lab Ray?
As of right now, no. The Lab Ray Scientist may adjust some settings later on though, so check back later to see if anything has changed!
Can I transfer my Varwolf to another account?
No. Varwolves currently cannot be transferred to other users, meaning that they cannot be traded or put up for adoption.
Varwolves also really do not like the pound! If you try to abandon your Varwolf, it will escape and run away. That means that it will be gone forever with no chance of getting it back and no chance for anyone else to adopt it, so be careful if you plan to visit the pound!
When will I be able to get a Varwolf without Premium?
Varwolves will be made available site-wide through a mini (non-time-limited!) event and questline starting Nov 26th 2025.
Will I be able to keep my Varwolf if I use the Species Change perk but cancel my Premium Subscription later?
Yes, you will be able to keep your Varwolf, but it will be bound to your account and will not be able to abandon, transfer, or trade it.
If I use the Premium Species Change to get a Varwolf before the pet’s site-wide release, will I still get to keep my Varwolf when it becomes more widely available?
Yes!
Can I customise my Varwolf?
Yes! Since this is a new Neopet it still needs to be fitted for some clothes, but you can customise it with background and foreground items while we work on making existing wearables compatible with the Varwolf. New clothes and customisation items will be added in the future, so keep checking to see what new items your Varwolf can wear!
Why can’t my Varwolf wear clothes that already exist?
There is no easy answer to this question, but the short answer is that there are a LOT of wearables on the site. It will take some time to be able to retrofit them all to the Varwolf, but we are working as quickly as we can to try and get as many wearables ready for Varwolf as possible.
Do you plan to release even more new Neopet species in the future?
Right now we can’t make any promises, but we would love to look at potentially introducing more species
I started the quest but don’t know how to find a Varwolf. What do I do?
The Varwolves' secret hideout can only be reached through putting together a special map. Map pieces are held by knowledgeable characters across Neopia that you will meet on your quest, as well as obtained through Random Events, the Wheel of Extravagance, and searching in the Haunted Woods Hunt daily.
I reached the Varwolves’ secret hideout, but I'm unable to see any Varwolves. Why?
Varwolves are shy and won’t approach you out of caution. Perhaps bringing their favourite treat might encourage one to step into view?
How do I get the items I need to access and adopt a Varwolf?
The only guaranteed way to get the items you need to unlock a Varwolf is to play through the questline associated with them. Otherwise you will have to check the Shop Wizard, Trading Post, Auction House, etc. to find and purchase them. But we hear there’s another way, if your eyes are sharp and you search the Haunted Woods thoroughly…
The Map Pieces needed might be granted through random events or other site features, too. Keep an eye out for opportunities to get them!
