Roodoku

General Info
King Roo is on the search for a new Treasurer. According to him, only the best of the best are those who can pass the test of numbers that contains rows, columns and squares. Do you think you have what it takes to be the next Treasurer of Roo Island? Roodoku is similar to the classic and well-known puzzle game, Sudoku.

Since this is a site feature that gives out neopoint rewards and prizes, you may not play Roodoku on your side accounts. For more information look at our side accounts guide.

How To Play
When starting the game, there are four different modes that you can start with: practice, easy, medium and hard-- determining the difficulty of the game. The point of the game is to fill in all the blank squares on the board with the correct numbers. But there's a catch! All the numbers must not match between the row, column and 9-set square boxes. In other words, you are using numbers 1-9 once in each column, row and box.

For example, if there is a 5 in A2, then no 5's can be written in row A, column 2 or within that same box. Every number has its own place and it is up to you to find it by using the given numbers as clues. If following all the clues, C8 would be the next 5.

Controls
Using a mouse, hover over a square to find miniature squares in its place. You can then click to choose numbers 1-9 that you think is correct in the puzzle.

Modes
There are a total of four different modes to choose from: practice, easy, medium and hard. Each mode has their own difficulty and amount of bonus points given. On top of bonus points, there are timed bonus points that match the same amount. The amount of timed bonus points is determined by how fast you solve the board. Each mode also has a set amount of blocks that are given and must be solved.

Mode Bonus Points  Time Remaining Bonus Number of Blocks to Solve
Easy 200 points 200 seconds 28 blocks
Medium 400 points 400 seconds 41 blocks
Hard 600 points 600 seconds 49 blocks

Practice Mode
When playing on this mode, there are no bonus points that are given, nor time bonus points. The grid, or board, is also different. Instead of a 9x9 grid to solve, you are given a 4x4 grid to help practice and see how to solve the puzzle.

Mode Bonus Points  Time Bonus Number of Blocks to Solve
Practice No bonus points are given 0 seconds
8 blocks of 4x4 frame

Strategies
There are a few known strategies when playing Roodoku to take into consideration.

Strategy Description Example
Scanning You want to scan numbers throughout the board first. To do this, choose any number from 1-9. (It is best to start from 1 and make your way up to 9.) Once you have a number you are focusing on, scan everything in one direction first (whether that is vertically or horizontally). As you do a scan, and you notice that there's two tiles that it does not reach, scan the opposite direction (whether that is vertically or horizontally) and see if the number is going to deduct one of the tiles. Doing the scans first helps eliminate blank tiles quickly.
Missing Numbers Once you've done your scanning, you can look row-by-row to find missing numbers. You can search rows vertically or horizontally.
