What is the Smugglers Cove?
On October 18th 2001 the Smugglers Cove was opened on Krawk Island. This is a cove where the smugglers take their items and sell them. The Smugglers Cove is not like a normal shop though. First of all, because it does not stock like the normal shops do. Whenever a new item is released to be sold in the cove, you will see it announced on the news. Lately, the announcements have been rather vague because the smugglers don't like everyone knowing about their shady business, like this:
Rumour has it that a mysterious weapon has been discovered somewhere in Neopia... Can you find it?
When you see something like that on the news, it will mean that a new item has been added to the Smugglers Cove. This does not mean that if you then go to the cove, you will see it there for sale. The cove will only sell the item at random times, mostly you will find yourself looking in the cove, with nothing for sale. The reason for this is also because the items for sale there are really rare. Of each item, only 120 pieces will be sold there. Originally, only 100 of each item were sold. This amount was later changed to 120 as the amount of people playing Neopets increased.
The Smugglars Cove stocks randomly on the minute (so at :02 for instance). It stocks items about 3-5 times an hour and it will then sell 1-3 items at a time. After they're all sold out, the item is retired. It's very rare that an item is then re-released after that:
So, after the Battledome Chat enlightened me to the fact that you don't regulate the amount of Super Attack Peas in existence, I've been wondering... a lot of the SuAps in Neopia are disappearing because of misfortunes that effect the accounts of SuAp holders. Would you really allow Neopia to be completely ridden of this extraordinary item, or could you please do something to stop their rapid extinction? Perhaps you could at least release another one in the Smugglers Cove for every one that gets frozen? ~sylviau
We don't track what items get lost when we freeze accounts so we don't have any magical program that poofs a SUAP into existance whenever one is lost to a frozen account. We have released more items in the Smugglers Cove before, but there's no guarantee we'll do it again. Alas, it has happened before that items have gone "extinct," and while it may be regrettable, it's just part of Neopia.
Buying an item
What you should also know is that you must pay for the items in dubloons. All the shops on Krawk Island will ask you to pay in dubloons, and so will the smugglers. You can get dubloons from several places such as Coltzan's Shrine, Buried Treasure, Anchor Management and the Hidden Tower. Of course you can also buy dubloons from other users, using the Shop Wizard, Super Shop Wizard, Trading Post or Auctions. If you wish to trade your smaller value dubloons for a higher value dubloon, you can exchange them at the Dubloon-O-Matic. If you haven't got any dubloons in your inventory, you cant buy anything, should anything be for sale. You can however see the items.
*throws you a lot of hot air* Does my Neopet have to be "carrying" dubloons with him / her in order to see any items at the Smugglers Cove? ~actorkerry
No. If there's an item at the Smugglers Cove, then it will be visible regardless of whether you have a dubloon on hand or not. Of course, if one does see an item there and their Neopet didn't bring any dubloons, then he or she may weep bitterly. We know we would.
As the items are high in demand, you will not be wanting to wait to see what an item costs and then get dubloons to buy it. By doing that, you will have lost so much time that the item will be sold out by the time you get back. As the most expensive item ever sold at the Smugglers Cove cost 600 dubloons, you should be safe with that amount. You do not need to have the exact amount of dubloons in your inventory to buy an item, the smugglers will have change.
*Begs* please answer this! I don't want my Draik to blow up from disgust while waiting for the answer. Can you please tell me if you have to have the exact Dubloon denomination to buy anything out of the Smugglers Cove, or will a Dubloon of a higher denomination automatically break down so that you receive change back in Dubloons? ~giladriel37
You don't have to have exact change, thank goodness. It's already hard to be quick enough to get something from there without having to worry about having the exact number of dubloons at the ready. The pirates do give change, though keep in mind that they are pirates and will, in all likelihood, try to stiff you a little.
As always, when you keep items in your inventory, be careful about Random events that may make your item disappear, or turn it into something else.
Getting banned
The smugglers don't like it when their cove gets too crowded, as it may get their business uncovered. This means that if you visit the cove too often (or refresh too much) you will get banned from visiting. This could happen after only a few refreshes. When you are banned you cannot visit the cove anymore for about an hour.
Are you trying to get us into trouble???
Visiting the Smugglers Cove too much is a bad idea... you don't want to attract attention to their illicit activities do you? They will not let you pass.
Please wait a while before you return!
