Faerie Abilities

Aethia's Ability Academy opened up for business on February 19th, 2013. On this day the old faerie abilities got replaced by a set of new ones. This change was part of the remake of the Battledome. On this page you will learn all about the new faerie abilities.

Weak Bottled Faeries
At Aethia's Ability Academy you can learn your pets new abilities. Aethia the Battle Faerie will help you to train your pets in exchange for Faerie Blessings. Faerie Blessings can be gotten from Weak Bottled Faeries. You can see all the available ones in the table below:

Weak Bottled Air Faerie

Weak Bottled Dark Faerie

Weak Bottled Earth Faerie

Weak Bottled Fire Faerie

Weak Bottled Light Faerie

Weak Bottled Water Faerie

Unidentifiable Weak Bottled Faerie

There are different ways to obtain the Weak Bottled Faeries:

  1. Kauvara's Magic Shop restocks the faeries at rarity 88.

  2. The Almost Abandoned Attic restocks the faeries as they are between the rarity 80 to 99 rarity limit.

  3. The Igloo Garage Sale restocks the faeries as they are under the rarity 89 limit.

  4. The faeries are randomly given out as Battledome Prizes in any of the domes.

  5. You can win a faerie by landing on the magic potion at the Wheel of Excitement.

  6. You can win them as a reward for completing a Snow Faerie Quest.

  7. You can create them at the Cooking Pot by mixing three Fading Bottled Faeries. Which Weak Bottled Faerie you get is random.

  8. You can wish for a Weak Bottled Faerie at the Wishing Well as it may grant items up to rarity 89.

Getting Faerie Blessings
Once you've got yourself Weak Bottled Faeries you need to let them bless your pet in order to get a faerie blessing. You can do this by placing the Weak Bottled Faerie in your inventory. If you click on it, you will be given the option to bless one of your pets. Select the pet of your choice and a faerie will bless your pet. You will get 1-2 blessings.

The Unidentifiable Weak Bottled Faerie is a special one. While the Weak Bottled Dark Faerie will give you a dark blessing, you do now know what you will get out of the Unidentifiable Weak Bottled Faerie. The outcome is random, but it will always be only 1-2 blessings. They can be two different blessings, like 1 water and 1 earth.

If you then return to Aethia's Ability Academy, you will see that the faerie blessings field will be updated. Please note that you might need to click on the pet you've blessed first, if this is not your active pet.

The Abilities
There are 30 different abilities available for your pet. However, they come in tiers of 3. From each tier you can only train your pet 1 ability. That means in total your pet can learn 10 abilities. In order to learn an ability from a tier, your pet needs to be trained to a certain level. Tier 1 is available for all pets (starts at level 1), but tier 10 is only available for pets of level 500 (and up).

All abilities can be used when frozen by your opponent, even though you can't use the weapons (though this could be a glitch).

Below you can see all the available abilities. We are still testing to see what they do exactly.

Tier 1: Pets Level 1 and Up
Drizzle

Drizzle
Controlling the weather takes some time, but the extra water damage could be worth it.

Cost: Free
Attack: 4 water icons
Frequency: In the round you use this nothing happens, the attack happens the next round. You then have to wait one round to use it again.
Review: Not much help in a one-round battle against easy opponents and with a three-round period, it works out at 1.3 icons per round.
Halitosis

Halitosis
Attack your opponent with earth damage... this kind of thing does tend to linger.

Cost: Free
Attack: 2 earth icons
Frequency: There are two options; option 1 is more common than option 2:
1. Damage for two rounds, then can't use again for one round
2. Damage for one round, then can't use again for one round
Review: Less icons per round than Static Cling and also not available each round.
Static Cling

Static Cling
Hit your opponent with a blast of light damage. Aethia's Ability Academy is not responsible for any resulting electrical charge.

Cost: Free
Attack: 3 light icons
Frequency: Every round
Review: What you see is what you get. This ability does a constant 3 light icons each round. This is the best Level 1 ability
Tier 2: Pets Level 5 and Up
Bandage

Bandage
Heal yourself for a few hit points. Every little bit helps, wouldn't you say?

Cost: 2 earth blessings
Heal: Heals 5 hitpoints
Frequency: Once per battle
Review: The amount of hitpoints it heals is very low. This doesn't make using this ability over another worth it, unless your maximum hitpoints are very low.
Meditate

Meditate
With a little focus, your healing can last a bit longer.

Cost: 2 air blessings
Heal: Heals 4 hitpoints
Frequency: There are two options:
1. Round 1 heals 4 hitpoints, round 2 heals 4 hitpoints, you then cannot use this ability 4 rounds
2. Round 1 heals 4 hitpoints, you then cannot use this ability 4 rounds
So far this seems the most common option
Review: Inconsistent and low healing.
Shade

Shade
Use this ability to slip into the shadows and protect yourself.

Cost: 2 dark blessings
Defence: Blocks 1+ icons, usually three different elements but four has been confirmed
Even blocks elements that are not used in an attack
Frequency: Can be used every 4 rounds
Review: Restricted use and random icons blocked mean this isn't very useful, especially if it can block icons not used by opponent. This is still the best ability of the tier.
Tier 3: Pets Level 10 and Up
Cranky

Cranky
You wield your weapons with a bit more force while perturbed.

Cost: 4 fire blessings
Attack: Adds 1 icon to one, or more, types of icon in your attack
Frequency: Once per battle
Review: Using a multiple-icon weapon will boost this ability.
Meh

Meh
Your lethargy seems contagious and your opponent's enthusiasm drains.

Cost: 4 air blessings
Defence: Defends one, or more icon, types of each used in the attack
Frequency: Once per battle
Review: It's an inconsistent ability, which is boosted against multiple-icon weapons.
Positive Thinking

Positive Thinking
The power of positive thinking grants you a bonus to healing.

Cost: 4 light blessings
Heal: Heals 5% of current hp
Frequency: Once per battle
Review: Could be a very small amount of healing, especially when you are down to low hp left. Better used before earlier in battle to gain more hp back.
Tier 4: Pets Level 25 and Up
An Icicle

An Icicle
Frozen water can be quite devastating in battle.

Cost: 10 water blessings
Attack: 6 water icons
Frequency: Once per round
Review: This is a nice ability to use. Since it can do a constant of 6 icons damage every round, you are able to do a nice amount of extra damage every round you use it. Recommended level 25 ability choice.
Irritable Minions

Irritable Minions
Summon your dark minions to attack your opponent... eventually.

Cost: 10 dark blessings
Attack: 8 dark icons
Frequency: You can use it again after 9 rounds.
Review: Not good compared to The Icicle in the same tier; this only does less 1 icon per round.
Sear

Sear
Inflict fire damage upon your opponent. It takes a while to put it out.

Cost: 10 fire blessings
Attack: 4 fire icons
Frequency: Attacks for two rounds then a one round wait.
Review: 4 icons over two rounds doesn't compare favourably with An Icicle in the same tier, with that being more icons and every round.
Tier 5: Pets Level 50 and Up
Lens Flare

Lens Flare
Blind your opponent with this lens flare and they won't be able to see their weapons.

Cost: 15 light blessings
Defence: Makes weapons useless, so your opponent will not attack.
Weapons not used up so available to you in the next round
Frequency: Once per battle
Review: This is a very good ability to get. The only thing that equals this is Thyoras Tear and Downsize Power Plus, which are multi-million+ items, or the one use item, Thick Smoke Bomb. Best level 50 ability
Shhhhhhhhh...

Shhhhhhhhh...
Silence your opponent. It's hard to cast spells when you can't speak

Cost: 15 earth blessings
Defence: Opponent's ability will not work that round
Against you: If the ability you used wasn't an once per round ability, you lose it for the battle.
Frequency: Once per battle
Review: Without knowing if/what abilities your opponent will play, this ability can't be used to the best it could. And it does not defend against weapons
Throw Pillows

Throw Pillows
Use these to let your opponent know it's nap time.

Cost: 15 air blessings
Defence: Makes weapons useless, so your opponent will not attack.
Weapons not used up so available to you in the next round
Frequency: Once a day and cannot use other Tier 5 abilities that day
Review: The same effect as Thyoras Tear/Downsize Power Plus/Thick Smoke Bomb without the high cost. But with Lens Flare, in the same tier, doing the same and once per battle, this is less useful and Lens Flare will be a better choice
Tier 6: Pets Level 100 and Up
Burrow

Burrow
Hide from your opponent safely underground.

Cost: 6 earth + 6 light + 6 dark blessings
Defence: Blocks all of 0-3 icon types
Can even block icons that are not used in an attack
Frequency: Once per battle
Review: A limited use ability, as may block an icon that was not attacked
Float

Float
Increase your resistance to light, water, and air.

Cost: 6 air + 6 water + 6 light blessings
Defence: Air icons and water icons, where the attack contains them
Frequency:
Review:
Shroud

Shroud
Increase your resistance to dark, fire, and earth.

Cost: 6 earth + 6 fire + 6 dark blessings
Defence: Earth and fire icons
Frequency:
Review:
Tier 7: Pets Level 200 and Up
Snowager's Breath

Snowager's Breath
Create a very thick, icy prison around your opponent... as long as it doesn't miss, that is.

Cost: 15 light + 25 water blessings
Defence: Makes weapons and abilities useless, so your opponent will not attack.
Weapons not used up so available to you in the next round
Frequency: Once a day
Review: Another ability that stops opponents weapons and abilities but only a daily one. Warlock's Rage is in the tier and works once per battle, so recommend you pick that
Tempest

Tempest
Send your opponents to the eye of the storm and see how long it takes them to get out.

Cost: 15 earth + 25 air blessings
Attack: 6 air icons

Defence:Makes weapons and abilities useless, so your opponent will not attack.
Weapons not used up so available to you in the next round
Frequency: Once a day
Review: Additional icons to weapons/ability disability makes this better than Snowager's Breath. As it's a daily ability, Warlock's Rage is a better choice
Warlock's Rage

Warlock's Rage
Channel your malevolent rage into increased damage and incapacitate your opponent at the same time. A favourite combo of warlocks everywhere.

Cost: 15 fire + 25 dark blessings
Defence: Disables opponents weapons and abilities
Weapons available for use next round
Frequency: Once per battle
Review: This is a very good ability to get and an upgrade to Lens Flare. This is recommended for your level 200 ability
Tier 8: Pets Level 300 and Up
Drain Life

Drain Life
Steal your opponent's life force and add it to your own.

Cost: 40 water + 40 dark blessings
Attack/Heal Drains 10 health from opponent and gives to you
Frequency: Once per battle
Review:
Healing Fire

Healing Fire
Cleanse with the power of fire!

Cost: 40 earth + 40 fire blessings
Heal: 25hp
Frequency: Once per battle
Review: Rejuvenate is likely to heal more than 25hp and is in the same tier
Rejuvenate

Rejuvenate
Increase your healing power for a short period of time

Cost: 40 water + 40 light blessings
Heal: Hp healed = maximum hp - current hp
Frequency: Once per battle
Review: A good addition to your usual healers in battle. Like those, the hp dealt does not take into account any damage taken that round. Unlike healing items, you cannot hide behind Lens Flare/Warlocks Rage to heal so may be best utilised when your opponent is frozen or almost beaten.
Tier 9: Pets Level 400 and Up
Adrenaline Rush

Adrenaline Rush
A rush of adrenaline makes you stronger and more agile. This is pretty useful if you like damaging your opponent.

Cost: 120 water blessings
Attack: Additional icons of damage for each type you dealt in total:
1 extra when deal 1-12 icons
2 extra when deal 13+ icons
Frequency: Once per battle
Review: Similar to Meh! but a consistent effect
Rally Cry

Rally Cry
The fire within you can't be extinguished and you use it freely against your opponent over the course of battle.

Cost: 120 fire blessings
Attack: 6 fire
Frequency: Once per battle
Review: Same number of additional icons as An Icicle. A very small chance of ability recurring in next rounds but using another ability will stop this and thus you should play this ability as a one round one
Reflect

Reflect
Politely decline your opponents generous gifts. They can keep 'em.

Cost: 120 light blessings
Defence: Reflects some of opponent's attack back at them
Frequency: Once per battle
Review: As reflect means defence for you and attack against opponents, this can be very helpful
Tier 10: Pets Level 500 and Up
Esophagor Stench

Esophagor Stench
The earthy stench of the Esophagor, which can distract your opponents quite easily, is at your disposal. Disposal being the key word here.

Cost: 60 earth + 100 water blessings
Action Unknown Testing/Confirmation Needed
Frequency:
Review:
Meepit Stampede

Meepit Stampede
The dark power of a Meepit invasion is yours to control. It doesn't bode well for your opponents, or their damage output.

Cost: 60 earth + 100 dark blessings
Attack: 7-10 dark icons

Defence: 3 physical icons, 2 air icons, 2 earth icons
Frequency:
Review:
Summon Monoceraptor

Summon Monoceraptor
The fiery Monoceraptor is at your command and can be used to distract your opponent. Just remember to stay out of the way.

Cost: 60 earth + 100 fire blessings
Action Unknown Testing/Confirmation Needed

Learning and Changing Abilities
To learn your pet an ability, you must first have enough blessings for your pet. You can see if you have enough by hovering over an ability. It will then tell you if you have enough or not. If you have enough blessings and you wish you train your pet with it, you need to click on the ability. It then gets a red border around it. If you then scroll down to the page, you can click on 'Train these abilities'.

You will then be asked if you really want to spend your blessings on the ability.

If you then click 'Yes, I'm, sure' your pet will have learned the ability and your blessings will be gone. You can see which abilities your pet has learned from the green border around them.

If you've learned an ability in a certain tier, and you wish to switch to another ability, this is possible. But, you can only have one ability of a tier at once. If you want to switch an ability, you will need to pay blessings as well, but only half the amount that it would've originally costed you.

Saving tip: some Weak Bottled Faeries cost more than others. The light faerie is a lot more expensive for instance. If you want to budget, it could be cheaper to learn another ability first, and then to pay half the amount of light faeries needed by switching.

You cannot learn or switch abilities while you are in battle. If things aren't going the way you planned, you're out of luck!

Old Faerie Abilities
If you are interested in learning about the old faerie abilities, you can visit the Magical abilities descriptions page on Neopets. The system used to be a lot different. Each faerie had 8-9 abilities. In order to learn an ability, your pet needed to be a certain level (as you can see on that page). You would then use 1 bottled faerie to learn the ability. These faeries are now called Fading Bottled Faerie. They are no use anymore, aside the fact that you can use them at the Cooking Pot to create the newer faeries.

Fading Bottled Air Faerie

Fading Bottled Dark Faerie

Fading Bottled Earth Faerie

Fading Bottled Fire Faerie

Fading Bottled Light Faerie

Fading Bottled Water Faerie

The people whose pets had learned the old abilities received a compensation for them from Neopets. You can see on the Neopets Abilities page if your pet had any. Neopets gave a compensation up to 62,000 neopoints for the old abilities. You got more neopoints if you had more abilities.

Future Developments
It appears that Neopets is not done yet developing the new abilities.

For starters, all the currently available faeries are 'weak' bottled faeries. TNT has also posted the following on their news "You may start finding stronger bottles that give out more blessings!".

Secondly, three of the wheels in Neopia, the Wheel of Excitement, the Wheel of Mediocrity and the Wheel of Monotony have results that affect the faerie abilities. On the Wheel of Excitement, the Light Faerie could formerly increase your ability level, whereas the Dark Faerie could decrease it. On the other two wheels the Earth and Light Faerie could increase your ability's level. The results of the wheels have not yet been changed.

The Radioactive Negg is supposed to increase the level of one of your abilities. But this also has not been changed yet.

Dailies that gave out bottled faeries, such as Tombola, Deserted Tomb and Fruit Machine are still giving out the Fading Bottled Faeries. Same goes for Keyquest, where you can still win the Fading Bottled Faeries from Bronze and Lead keys. The Space Faerie Vending Machine and Alien Aisha Vending Machine still give out the old faeries and so does the Neopets Referral Program. The random event still gives out the Faded Bottled Faeries as well:

Something has happened!
Your pet has found a captured faerie!!!

We assume that Neopets will want to change these to the new faeries. This is also indicated by TNT in the Editorial.

Does the Tombola still give out fading bottled faeries, or does it give out the new ones? Thanks! ~superxwee123

It still gives out the old fading faeries. Random Events and games that give out the old faeries will continue to give them out until we have time to go through and update them all. They are retired from restocking in Kauvara's shop, though, and are now replaced with the weak bottled faeries.
