Why this page?
Every year on April 1st The Neopets Team tries to pull everyone's leg by changing something to the site that is rather radical. For example in 2006 they told everyone they would have to start paying taxes for every page load. We decided to start making a log of TNT's April fools jokes, starting April 1st, 2007. From the years before 2007 we've tried to gather some information to give you insights in the older jokes.

April 1st, 2006

In 2006, a Neopoint tax was invented. This Neotax meant that people had to pay neopoints according to their amount of page views on the site. The reason for doing this was - according to TNT - to prevent people from refreshing too much and to stabilize the Neopets economy. If you were not able to pay your bill, your account would be flagged for review and a support staff member would be required to investigate. The support staff would first judge whether your account possesses sufficient assets to cover your accrued debt. If so, the support staff would then take necessary action to compensate for your unpaid debt which could result in one or more of the following:

- Item(s) removed from the account - Your Neopet(s) put up for adoption - Access to certain parts of the site being restricted - Twice as many ads that you have now (if you are a premium member, yes, you will start seeing ads again) - Any painted Neopets will be returned to a normal colour
