The Faeries' Ruin Effect on the Altador Cup teams

A Bit of Background Info...

In September, Year 12, the annual Faerie Festival abruptly came to a halt due to an unforeseen curse that turned the entire faerie population in Neopia to stone!

As the months dragged on, Neopia learnt how much danger they were in without the faeries monitoring the overall welfare of the planet. A crack team of heroes (King Altador, two of Altador's guards, King Jazan of Qasala, Captain Brynn of Brightvale, Xandra the scholar, the Ogrin Top Chop Master and Hanso the self-proclaimed master thief) went out of their way to rescue the sinking Faerieland in order to save Neopia from a horrible fate.

Many had to do battle with Shadow Wraiths that plagued the planet and drained the life out of anything they passed. It was a grim time for all.

But the destination for Faerieland was a direct collision just outside of the Haunted Woods and Xandra revealled her true powers for Neopia's rule. At that point Xandra had turned everyone in the vicinity of her into stone after tricking our heroes into believing that an ancient ritual would save the doomed world. Hanso and Brynn had been spared from the ritual's effects because Xandra believed that they could help her reform Neopia "in her image".

Brynn battled against Oblivion whilst Hanso deliberately antagonised Xandra to overload the artefact that started this mess (he liberated it from her a second time since the start of the plot) which led up to the most selfless heroic deed in Neopian history...

Hanso sacrificed himself to save the world by destroying the energy-charged artefact, petrifying himself and Xandra in the process of breaking the evil spell. This unpetrifed our fallen heroes and the faeries... although earlier on in the plot, Xandra had killed off Hubrid Nox to aid her plans and sadly he could not return.

With the faeries freed along with our other heroes, Queen Fyora returned the favour to Hanso, asking him to revisit her when he was fully healed...
(For more information about the plot, please see our The Faeries' Ruin plot coverage.)

But due to the catastrophic effect this was having on the Neopian world itself, our Altador Cup stars suffered during the off-season as well.
Today you will hear from the players themselves about how The Faeries' Ruin impacted their lives and training possibilities in the duration of the global crisis.

Darigan Citadel

Team Darigan Citadel had a very different perspective of Faerieland's grim situation in more than one way. As Darigan Citadel is an airborne land, the Darigans could see Faerieland sinking from their altitude in the sky and knew that this was BAD from the beginning. As terrible as the scenario was, Team Darigan Citadel saw a sudden resemblance between their land and Faerieland's electrically charged cloud... Without faerie magic to keep the cloud afloat and with a curse raising scary Wraiths from the shadows, they recognised how similar the lands really were at the core of things...

CAPTAIN LAYTON VICKLES

The team and I were playing some intense rounds of Yooyuball when we sensed the electrical surge of Faerieland surge through the sky. It was like a gigantic flash of purple lighting and the thunder was godly! I called team practice to a halt - it was obvious something bad had happened to Faerieland.
RESHAR COLLIFEY

We couldn't believe it! That fluffy, girly cloud had turned black and purple like our own Darigan Citadel. We knew that some dark magic had occurred and we had no idea what... but the problem was intense. Gave me the shivers!
KEP BONNEFIE

It turns out that the initial flash of lightning and that thunderous boom was when the mystical artefact was activated by Hubrid Nox (rest his soul - it was Xandra disguised as Nox). Faerie magic is powerful -- for something to cause THAT kind of destruction to the faeries is horrifying even for us.
TANDRAK SHAYE

I thought Faerieland had exploded! That thunder was shocking and I thought... I thought it was gone... but it wasn't... It started SINKING! Could you imagine if it was DC that was sinking?! I wouldn't have been surprised if Team Faerieland were goners. If the faeries were goners.
TORMO "THE TERROR" FRERIN

Then the Wraiths came and terrorised every corner of Neopia. Suddenly Yooyuball didn't matter - no one was safe from the Wraiths or the decay of Neopia. I went straight into battle - it was good to smash those phantoms out of existence!
LAYTON

The whole of Neopia was in trouble. Many would mock Team Faerieland for their lack of Yooyuball prowess... but faeries themselves are... well you could SEE their immense power once it was breaking down. They maintained the ecosystem and welfare of our planet. If that isn't hardcore then what is? Neopia NEEDS Faerieland.
TANDRAK

We couldn't help Faerieland directly but it became a habit for us to monitor its altitude as it was sinking. We had to protect DC from the Wraiths after all.
KEP

I will never insult the faeries again! Honestly, The Faeries' Ruin scared me to death. They say "don't take things for granted" so we shouldn't aggravate or shrug them off. They have enough power to do some serious damage (if they weren't so kind, that is).
TEAM DARIGAN CITADEL

Yeah.
TANDRAK

Luckily - from what we heard - Team Faerieland survived!
KEP

And since they crashed, Faerieland itself looks more down-to-Neopia than ever.
